The Story (Matthew 13 version):
One day, Jesus went out of the house and sat by the lake. A large crowd gathered around Him, so He got into a boat and sat, while the people stood on the shore. He told them many things in parables, saying:
"A farmer went out to sow his seed.As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up.Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly because the soil was shallow. But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root.Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants.Still other seed fell on good soil, where it produced a crop—a hundred, sixty, or thirty times what was sown.Whoever has ears, let them hear."

Jesus Explains the Meaning:
Later, His disciples asked what the parable meant. Jesus explained:
-
The Seed represents the Word of God.
-
The Sower is the one who shares God’s message.
-
Seed on the Path – Represents those who hear the message but do not understand it; the evil one snatches away what was sown in their hearts.
-
Seed on Rocky Places – Represents those who receive the word with joy at first, but since they have no root, they last only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away.
-
Seed among Thorns – Represents those who hear the word, but the worries of life and the deceitfulness of wealth choke it, making it unfruitful.
-
Seed on Good Soil – Represents those who hear the word, understand it, and produce a crop—multiplying the blessings and spreading God’s kingdom.
Spiritual Morals and Lessons:
-
Our Hearts Are the Soil:The way we respond to God’s Word depends on the condition of our hearts—hard, shallow, crowded, or open.
-
Spiritual Growth Requires Depth:Faith that is shallow will not survive trials; deep roots in God’s truth are needed for lasting strength.
-
Avoid Spiritual Distractions:Worries, temptations, and the love of money can choke spiritual growth; we must guard against these.
-
Fruitfulness is the Goal:True faith produces good works, godly character, and leads others to God.
-
God’s Word Has Power:Even though not all who hear will accept it, the Word can transform lives when planted in receptive hearts.
