Moses and the Parting of the Red Sea (Exodus 14)

Moses and the Parting of the Red Sea (Exodus 14).

The Story:

After years of slavery in Egypt, the Israelites, led by Moses, were finally set free by Pharaoh after God sent ten devastating plagues. However, as they journeyed out of Egypt, Pharaoh changed his mind and sent his army to recapture them. The Israelites found themselves trapped between the Red Sea and the advancing Egyptian army.

Terrified, the people cried out to Moses, questioning why he had brought them out of Egypt only to die in the wilderness. But Moses reassured them, saying, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today.”

God instructed Moses to stretch out his staff over the sea. As he did so, a strong east wind blew all night, dividing the waters and creating dry ground with walls of water on either side. The Israelites crossed the Red Sea safely, walking on dry land.

When the Egyptians pursued them into the sea, God caused confusion in their ranks, clogging the wheels of their chariots. Once all the Israelites had safely crossed, God commanded Moses to stretch out his hand again. The waters returned, drowning Pharaoh’s entire army.

The Israelites were awestruck by the miraculous deliverance and sang a song of praise to God, declaring, “The Lord is my strength and my song; He has become my salvation.”

The parting of the Red Sea shows God’s control over creation, emphasizing His power and ability to intervene in extraordinary ways.

  3. God Fights for His People
Moses told the Israelites, “The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” This reminds us that God is our protector and deliverer.

  4. Obedience Leads to Miracles
Moses obeyed God’s instructions, and through his faith and action, the miraculous occurred. Obedience to God often paves the way for His blessings and miracles.

  5. Gratitude for God’s Providence
After their deliverance, the Israelites sang songs of praise. This teaches us to respond to God’s blessings with gratitude and worship.
