Jesus Calms the Storm (Mark 4:35-41, Matthew 8:23-27, Luke 8:22-25).
The Story:
One evening, after a long day of teaching, Jesus tells his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side of the lake.” They set sail across the Sea of Galilee, leaving the crowd behind.
As they journey, Jesus falls asleep in the stern of the boat. Suddenly, a fierce storm arises, and the waves begin to crash over the boat, threatening to sink it. Despite the disciples’ experience as fishermen, they are terrified.
In desperation, they wake Jesus, crying out, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?”
Jesus stands, rebukes the wind, and says to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Instantly, the wind dies down, and the sea becomes calm.
Turning to his disciples, Jesus asks, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?”
The disciples are filled with awe and fear, asking one another, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!”
